TEMPTING PROVIDENCE
By Robert Chafe
Directed by Jillian Keiley
A production of Theatre Newfoundland Labrador
- True Canadiana: Highly-acclaimed, theatrical and touching, TEMPTING PROVIDENCE is a true story of courage and strength. British-trained nurse Myra Grimsley arrived to an isolated community in Newfoundland in 1921, and stayed in spite of huge odds against her. She was one of the first group of outport nurses who became a legend for performing a variety of medical tasks, from delivering babies to setting bones to extracting teeth. Myra did this in all kinds of weather while traveling by foot, horse, dogsled and boat along the 320-kilometer rugged Northern Peninsula.
