Message from the Artistic Director:

October 9, 2012

Dear Thousand Islands Playhouse Supporters:

From my new office, I can see the deep blue water of the St. Lawrence sparkling below the Springer Theatre. Amber autumnal sunshine is creating a pattern of shadows across my desk, and the oak tree’s leaves are rustling in the breeze. Simply – I am so happy to be here. In just a few weeks (on November 1), I will officially become the Playhouse’s next Artistic Director – a position that I am honoured to hold – this is my dream job! I have spent this summer learning about the theatre, our audience, and our community and have also been planning for 2013. This first started as day-dreaming and play reading. Soon I was methodically planning – from a long-list to a short-list of plays, scheduling and budgeting. Now for the fun part – sharing our plans with you!

From a French Farce from the 1960s (BOEING BOEING), to local home-grown stories (THIRD FLOOR by Queen’s grad Jason Hall) – I hope that you will always be delighted by what you see on our stages! We want your toes to be tapping during SUDS: THE ROCKING 60s SOAP OPERA MUSICAL and your funny-bone to be tickled during the hilarious musical THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE. Our musical programming continues throughout the season – with THE (POST) MISTRESS, a one-of-a-kind musical. Even in NO GREAT MISCHIEF – our stage adaptation of Alistair MacLeod’s acclaimed novel – the actors sing songs and play fiddles and guitars. This east coast spirit is carried into David French’s breathtaking love story SALT-WATER MOON – last done by the Playhouse in 1985!

We want our programming to remain accessible to all – and as a result, have not changed our subscription prices from last year. Subscribers still receive fantastic value: you can save up to $8 a ticket, do not have to pay ticket fees when ordering for themselves of friends, receive a dedicated reservation phone line and great seats! This year, we’ve introduced a new program – FLEX 6. This package is entirely flexible – which means you can use all six tickets for one show (for yourself and guests!) or spread the tickets out in any fashion throughout the season.

Subscriptions make great Christmas gifts – and if you subscribe by December 31st, you also receive a ticket to bring a guest for free to one of your 2013 shows! We are very proud of the line-up we are offering for next year – and we want you to share the excitement with a friend or loved one.

To learn more about our shows, subscription packages, or becoming a Patron Member of the theatre, please take a look around our new website – we are pretty thrilled with it, and hope you are too!

I look forward to seeing you at the Playhouse in 2013!

Yours truly,

Ashlie Corcoran
