GLORIOUS! the story of FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS and her love of singing, even though she is well known as the World's Worst Singer. Playing at the Thousand Islands Playhouse (1000 Islands Playhouse) beginning May 7, 2008 until May 31, 2008 in the Springer Theatre. It is written by Playwright Peter Quilter

In 1940’s New York, the performer everyone wanted to see was socialite Florence Foster Jenkins, the “Diva of Din”, who’s odd career is chronicled in this wonderfully comedic biography. Ms. Jenkins' claim to fame lay not in her skill or the beauty of her voice (since she had a complete lack of pitch, rhythm and singing ability), but in her firm and contagious conviction of her greatness, and in her passionate devotion to her art. Florence's flamboyant entourage includes accompanist and smoke screen Cosme McMoon, her batty and loyal friend Dorothy, “madam’s boyfriend”, the suave St. Clair, and a very cranky Mexican maid. Florence Foster Jenkins - one of the world’s most gloriously endearing - and enduring - eccentrics!

Assorted Candies, by Canada’s most acclaimed playwright Michel Tremblay, is based on his book of the same name. It’s a new series of stories about Quebec's most lovingly dysfunctional stage family, celebrated most recently in Tremblay's For The Pleasure of Seeing Her Again. The story is told by an adult narrator who steps in and out of the action as Tremblay's younger self, often hiding under the table to eavesdrop on the uncensored conversations happening between his colourful adult family members. Assorted Candies is a charming and witty look at a collection of wonderful women and men who shared Tremblay's life. (Translated by Linda Gaboriau.)

Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, Les Misérables sets the epic story of Jean Valjean, a man in search of personal redemption, to sumptuous, stirring music. Sensational, dramatic, packed with rich excitement and filled with the sweep and violence of human passions, Les Misérables is not only superb adventure but a powerful social document. With an unforgettable cast of characters, and music the whole world has embraced, Les Misérables will be a spectacular treat for the whole family.

September at the Springer brings an exquisite exploration of love in the autumn of our lives, in Half Life by John Mighton. In this award-winning play, nursing home residents Clara and Patrick fall in love, but their protective children are wary (and perhaps envious) of this unconventional and unexpected affair. Half Life is a poetic, compassionate and gently humourous portrait of the nature of memory, aging and true love.

Donna and Teddy are single parents who meet at the rink while watching their sons play minor league hockey. Fragile Donna has just escaped from an abusive marriage and is appalled by the violence on the ice. Teddy is as subtle as a slap shot and coaches his son (loudly) from the stands. The divorced Teddy tirelessly pursues the reluctant Donna; as determined to win her as he is for his son’s team to win the game. Between periods, during penalties, and amid the whir and thrum of a Zamboni, an unexpected romance blooms in the bleachers. Will well-meaning but noisy Teddy “score” with timid Donna – or get a penalty for crossing the line? It's a heartfelt comedy that has taken the country by storm!
